Rebase testing - final push :)

#1

Post by Cozdragon » Fri Jan 27, 2023 7:04 pm

Hello @everyone! On behalf of the senior staff and the folks that have been focused on the rebase for the last ~6 months, I'd like to announce that we are entering the final countdown to go-live of the rebase code. We will be targeting February 6th for the release of this major SR update, along with the activation of the Ewok Festival of Love event. Here is our timeline of events leading up to the release:
* Now -> February 3rd - Focus on testing/fixing items identified as major issues (show-stoppers)
* February 4th - Senior Staff will review any outstanding issues on the rebase server and determine a go or no-go for release on February 6th
* February 6th - Deployment and Release

What does this mean for the average player? It effectively means, all players will have approximately ~1 week to jump on the rebase server and test anything that is critically important to you. That doesn't just include your precious items, houses, character stats - it should also include scenarios like crafting common items, vendor operations, harvesters, buffs, combat, bounties, PvP, bosses, bunkers, caves, missions, etc. Please see the rebase-testing channel for more information on how to get connected to the rebase server and how to best test and report bugs that are found. Please also note - for the next week we are only focusing on bugs that do not currently exist on the SR live server. We encourage you to file reports for bugs that already exist on the live server, we will start addressing more of those after the rebase code has gone live.

Now for some statistics on the rebase changes:
* >20,000 file changes across the entire SR repository
* > 2.1 million lines of code changed so far spanning hundreds of commits
* >4 years of changes from the main SWGEmu project

Why are these statistics important? It shows the massive amount of change that is going into this release, and why it's absolutely critical to have as much testing as possible over the course of the next week. Additionally, as you can see from the numbers above, it would be impossible for us to test everything. It's important to understand that we will likely have a time period of 1~2 weeks after the release of the rebase code where we will have frequent hotfixes and restarts to address issues as they come up. We will try to limit the disruptions as much as possible, but the goal will be to address any critical issues as quickly as we can.

Finally, I'd like to extend a huge thank-you to all the staff and players that have helped test this release so far. Your feedback has been invaluable and we couldn't make this happen without your help!

Please direct any questions/comments/concerns to the rebase-testing channel in discord.
