Server Upgrade.

#1

Post by Cozdragon » Sat Dec 16, 2023 1:44 pm

We'll be completing a restart of the whole live infrastructure today 16th December at 15:00 GMT. The purpose of this restart will be to complete the last of the back-end hardware upgrade works being done as part of of our current project. The works will include a restart and an extended downtime for up to two hours, though we expect it to be much faster.

During this time, much of the infrastruture will be down whilst changes are made. This will not include Discord, but will include the website, forums, patch servers, databases and live game server. If you are fully patched for that server you should still be able to play on TC, if you are not already fully patched for that server then you will not.

An essential part of this change will include some DNS changes to much of the records that drive live gameplay. Whilst our servers will be back up and accessible within two hours as mentioned above, public DNS propagation time is unpredictable with a lot of variables depending on where you live, what ISPs you use, what DNS servers you're using, whether you're at home or playing from a managed / workplace network, etc. The upshot of this is that whilst the servers are back up, some individuals may experience a longer period of time before they'll be able to access them.

To speed up this potential portion of the impact, you can amend your DNS servers if you know how to do so. SR uses Cloudflare for our DNS, so people using fast public servers will see lower propagation time and those using the Cloudflare public DNS service on 1.1.1.1 will see the changes instantly. It is important to note however that no support will be provided by SR for home networks and no guidance will be provided on how to amend your local or network level DNS server addresses. If you know how to do so, you can do so, if not; you'll need to wait for the propagation.

As always, we will provide further updates as the window progresses. Thank you for your patience.
