Galactic Home Show Launch - Summer 2024

#1

Post by Cozdragon » Mon Jun 17, 2024 5:46 pm

Welcome to the Summer Galactic home decorating competition.

This Summer the theme will be about showcasing the game content here at SR. You may choose any building type, and then choose any piece of content from SR that you would like to highlight. As long as it celebrates a questline, content, or area that you enjoy here on SR and is family friendly you are welcome to be as creative as you want. Please ensure that all the house decoration is your own work.
If you wish to enter a building, please contact Coz with the toon name, discord id, waypoint, planet, building name, your chosen content, and the description you would like shared with the judging panel (150 words max). You could do this via: the forum post, or by direct messaging in discord. Entries will need to be submitted by Monday 29th July at 11.59pm PDT. (Tuesday 30th July 7.59am BST, or 2.59am EDT)

As always, the SR staff will judge, however, if a member of staff chooses to participate, they will be excluded from the judging panel.
Judging criteria:
Each player’s decorating skills are judged out of 10 against each of the following criteria. These scores will be added together to create the final score.

Creativity – Judges will look at how items are used. This is about using items in unusual ways to create an effect, or another item. This is also about how space is used – this may include making the decision to create additional spaces within a room, or blocking off areas.

Questions staff will consider:
Have items been used for their intended purpose or repurposed? E.g. using a jewelry setting to create a button.
Repurposing items in a creative way will gain more points. E.g. using wood staffs to create a large cage.
Have smaller items been used in combination with others to make a new item entirely?
Has space in the building been used in a creative way to explore the theme?

Theme – Points are awarded for reflecting the theme, and how it is maintained through the house. The theme this time is to celebrate a piece of content here on SR. You may wish to include items that give a backstory to the content, use vendors, etc to help clarify what judges are seeing.

Questions staff will consider:
Does the decoration fit the theme?
Is the chosen content clearly identified?
How strongly is the theme reflected in the house?
Are the items in the house named in a way to echo/support the theme?
Do vendors contribute to the theme?

Overall Feel – Judges will consider the impression and impact of the building and how they contribute to the atmosphere created. Be sure to consider renaming items, including the building itself to help with this. You may also wish to use vendors etc.

Questions staff will consider:
Have items been renamed to contribute to the environment?
Has the space been decorated to reflect the theme?
Is the space clearly organized so that you are able to view elements?
Has the space been used effectively to add to the atmosphere?

Apologies for the delay in posting the results of the Summer Galactic Home Show but the scoring has been incredibly close, with the lead switching several times as each staff member's scores were added. For this reason we delayed the results as we wanted to ensure as many staff as possible had their views heard.

There may have only been 2 entries but both decorators have made things exceptionally tricky for the staff. In fact, there was just 1.5 points between the two of them in the end with the final scores coming in at 406.5 and 408. We are however delighted to announce that the winner is: The Limping Dewback decorated by Kasaleen. Please join us in congratulating her and Widow who was a very close second. I will contact them privately to arrange their prizes.
