Welcome to the Trick or Treat Street Galactic Moon Festival (GMF) decorating competition

Are you dying to have some decorating fun? Whether you have spellbinding design skills, a spook-tacular idea or decorating is simply eerie-sistible – this is the event for you. Create a scene from a scary film, book or from your own head – just keep it family friendly and show off your fa-BOO-lous decorating skills.

Background Info:

Trick or Treat Street is the setting for some of our Galactic Moon Festival (GMF) events. Decorators who participate will be allocated an identical house on the street. Coz will take all responsibility for the lots and the funding of them. A free private taxi service will be provided so you have safe transport to and from the site whilst you are decorating which runs from just outside Coronet. If you make the commitment to decorate but are later unable to, please give Coz as much notice as possible so that she can make alternative arrangements as all houses need to be decorated. In addition to the usual range of items you can use, we will be adding GMF loot to most events in September and October. If you don’t want it – be sure to vendor it for others to buy and use.

How to enter:
Contact Coz in discord, or in game to request a house to decorate. Please give her a toon name so that she knows who to put on the entry lists, and admin in the house. You will also need to give her the film, book or theme for the house. If you change ideas that’s fine – just make sure you update her prior to the closing date. Coz will then give you the location for the taxi service, add you to a house and you can get decorating.

Judging Info:

The houses will be judged by SR staff. If staff choose to enter, they will be excluded from the judging panel. All judges are asked to ensure that they turn sound on, check spatial chats for call outs or commentaries by player toons or vendors. They are expected to click on items to check whether there is additional relevant information in bio’s, vendor stocks etc. They are reminded not to access the structure management terminal to see who owns the building.

Each judge submits their scores privately. These are then collated and held until all the scores are submitted. They are then made available to the senior team for checking. The decisions made by the judges are final. Staff volunteer considerable time to make this server event successful, and disrespecting them / their decision making will not be tolerated and may result in us ceasing to run decorating events in the future.

Judging Criteria:

Each house will be marked out of 10 for each criteria. Those scores are then totaled for a score from each staff member. Those are recorded and the total scores from all staff are combined to create a final score for each entry.

Creativity
Judges will look at how items are used. This is about using items in unusual ways to create an effect, or another item. This is also about how space is used – this may include making the decision to create additional spaces within the room.

Questions staff will consider:

Have items been used for their intended purpose or repurposed? Repurposing items in a creative way will gain more points. E.g., using wood staffs to create a prison cell.

Have smaller items been used in coordination with others to make a new item entirely?

Has space in the building been used in a creative way to explore the theme?

Theme
Points are awarded for reflecting the theme and how it is maintained through the house. The theme this time is to create a halloween tableau – either from a film, book or your own head. You may wish to include items that give a backstory to the theme, use vendors, etc to help clarify what judges are seeing.

Questions staff will consider:

Does the decoration fit the theme?

How strongly is the theme reflected in the house?

Are the items in the house named in a way to echo/support the theme?

Overall Feel
Judges will consider the impression and impact of the building and how they contribute to the atmosphere created. Be sure to consider renaming items to help with this. You may also wish to use vendors etc.

Questions staff will consider:

Have items been renamed to contribute to the environment?

Has the space been decorated to reflect the theme?

Is the space clearly organized so that you are able to view elements?

Has the space been used effectively to add to the atmosphere?

All of the above prize winners will also be offered the option of a deed for the house used and a house move to display it in their city if they want. They will be responsible for the lot and financing from the date of the move.

All other entrants will receive a SR coin and a limited edition “Staff of SR Painting.” You will also be able to get a house move, and we will advise you about the deed you will need to purchase.

We will also reserve the right to add additional prizes / highly commended ratings if we have a large number of entries.

The DEADline for your house of horror is the 24th October 11.59pm PDT. The official opening will be at the weekend in order to give the judges time to start looking and check buildings before they become available to players. Judging will take place from the 25th October until the 4th November, and we intend to announce the winners on the 6th November
