Big 5 Safari Hunt

I’m sure many of you have heard of the ‘Big 5 game’ – it’s a list of 5 creatures to spot when on safari on the African continent. Well, it’s time to don your best hunting gear, and get ready to explore because it’s time for a safari hunt, SWG Style!

Our big 5 this time are:
1. Borgle - Rori
2. Dalyrake - Talus
3. Graul Mauler - Dantooine
4. Jungle Bantha - Taanab
5. Reptilian Flier - Dathomir

You are welcome to photograph each one of our ‘big 5’ in the style of your choice. Your style could be a a live action shot of the animal in their natural habitat, or a tamed creature in an unusual situation/setting. You can even decorate to stage the pet if you like, this includes adding in additional players, items or other creatures. If you wish to add a title or even a caption, you are welcome to do so (100 word max). Please remember that all images should be family friendly.

You can enter one picture for each creature. You can switch your photography style between each of the 5 species. All screenshots must be from game (Ctrl shift H will remove the HUD) and be unprocessed / edited in any way. You may want to consider using your personal light CTRL and L if you’ve not adjusted your keymapping.

Judging criteria:
Each player’s photography skills are judged out of 10 against each of the following criteria. These scores will be added together to create the final score.

Creativity– Judges will look at how the photo creates impact. This could be by evoking an emotion or by telling the story of the creature in some way, or portraying an idea about the creature. You may wish to add items, players, speech bubbles or item naming to help get your message across.
Questions staff will consider:
Does the photo elicit an emotion?
Does the image deliver a message or story? Can you imagine being there?
Is there a fresh or unique element to the photo?

Composition – This is about the components of the image working together to create a purpose for the image. It may include adding additional items, the background, considering the lighting you wish to use etc.
Questions staff will consider:
Does the image focus on the subject or interaction of the subjects?
Was it taken in good lighting?
Did they choose the best angle or point of view to share the story of the creature?

Overall Feel – Judges will consider their impression of the photo, it’s title / caption, and how they contribute to the atmosphere the photo creates.
Questions staff will consider:
Does the title/caption add context or improve the photo?
Is the photo clear and visually interesting?
Is the creature the focus of the image?

Prizes:
Please note you can make one photo entry for each of the 5 species listed above, giving you 5 chances to win.

Per creature category.

First prize: 1 top end loot item of your choice and a limited-edition Purple Coz Speeder
Second prize: Any painting available in the game that can be generated.

In addition, each photographer will receive an SR coin for entering the competition.

The winning entries may be included in a future in-game artwork collection. If the senior team decides to do this, the winners will be given a copy of ‘their’ painting to keep at a future date.
To enter your painting:

The closing date is: Sunday 18th August at 11.59pm PDT. (Monday 19th August 7.59am BST, or 2.59am EDT).

Add your painting to this post with the following information by the closing date.
1. The species you have chosen
2. The title / any caption. (100 word max)
3. The name of the photographer. (Please use your toon name)

Entries with incomplete details will be discarded prior to judging.

Judging will take place between the 22nd and 29th August with an announcement planned for the 30th August.
