Stun based armor

Post by gyrantol » Mon Nov 06, 2017 1:45 pm

Greetings all,

We have been getting mixed response with the current server default of having Stun in the base layer of all armor types. We were wondering what you lot really feel about it. Should it stay as it is or should it go?

Surely our opinions at this stage are entirely moot? There already exists crafted armour in-game with this previously unobtainable Stun Base Resist, to make any changes now would push those pieces (and any schematics of those pieces) into Legendary status, or force you guys to remove every piece already on the server (something which I believe is essentially impossible), or you'd have to wipe the server for balance.

If I'm wrong on all these points please correct me. Personally this poll seems entirely worthless unless it had been posted before the meta-bending game changes went Live.

Well eventually the armor in game at the moment will get damaged and become useless. The AS who currently have them on vendors would be able to remove them and either destroy them or as you said sell them as legendary for lots more money...

So the poll isn't pointless because even those currently on vendors wouldn't be able to last indefinitely so surely it would make sense to change it if people don't want it so that eventually it will all be replaced? Otherwise you are stuck trying to PvP where everyone has stun protection which makes stun weapons useless and doesn't allow for variety of builds.

That is just my thoughts on it, but I don't want to influence peoples decision. If the majority are happy having all armor with stun protection then nothing will change.

As someone who has never PvP'd I will ask what is seemingly a stupid question: Is stun the most popular pvp damage type because it has traditionally been the lowest resist on armor, therefore the easiest way to do damage?

Exactly right. If you're wearing 90% Compo (80% Electric), Stun is pretty much your only option. Stun is also a damage type only available to a handful of professions, in order of effectiveness; Rifleman, Pistoleer/Fencer, Commando (grenades only). With the Stun being standard in Compo we actually have a more level playing field, with perhaps LLC users and Pikeman getting a tiny (oh so tiny) advantage, whilst still allowing the squishy, high-damage professions to shine ie. Rifleman, Swordsman, Commando.

To return to my previous post, if we remove the ability to reach Stun resists of the current magnitudes (60-90%) on future Composite pieces we will be adding unnecessary chaos to PVP. Stun will be the favoured damage type once again, due to hitting through the 0-36% max. Stun resist attainable on Composite, but anybody with armour crafted before the change will have the advantage of precisely 24-54% more damage reduction.

I'd like to point out that my suggested armor revamp changes this for the better, especially with future armors having different vulnerabilities.

Your point still stands on old armors, but I'd still like to see the change go through. Otherwise all new armor is gonna end up being exactly the same as composite which is just boring.
