Squad leader xp

How does squad leader xp work exactly? Do the members of the group have to be close by to contribute or can they be anywhere? Does the leader only gain xp when he/she makes a kill and the xp is based off of the size of the group?

I went SL with one of my characters and he seems to only get SL xp when he kills a target and I vaguely remember it being whenever a member of the group makes a kill and they could be anywhere. I dont remember if that was on the love servers or a private server though.

• The Squad Leader must in the Group Leader
• The Squad Lead must be with 120m of the group member earning combat XP
• The group member doing the killing MUST be earning combat XP, they cannot be capped
• The Squad Leader abilities affect that group members within 120m of the Squad Leader
• The Squad Leader abilities do not affect the Squad Leader

That was why I wasn't getting xp from others in the group. They were nearby but not close enough.
